Leo F. Forbstein

Als Dirigent und musikalischer Direktor wirkte er an fast 500 (!) Filmen mit. Im zarten Alter von vier Jahren hatte er begonnen Violine zu spielen. Später als Dirigent am Royal Theater in St. Joseph, Montana, führte er die Synchronisation von Orchester und Stummfilmhandlung auf der Leinwand ein.

Mitte der 20er Jahre zog er nach Hollywood, wo er in Graumans Egyptian Theater ein Symphonieorchester dirigierte. 1926 unterschrieb einen Vertrag mit dem Music Department von Warner Bros. und wurde Direktor des Vitaphone Orchestra. Forbstein wurde für drei Academy Awards nominiert: 1936 für "Anthony Adverse" (den er auch gewann und der zum ersten Mal in der Katagorie "Musical Score" vergeben wurde)und "The Charge of the Light Brigade", sowie 1937 "The Life of Emile Zola". Er arbeitete gerade an der Musik für die Oscarverleihung 1948, als er einen Herzinfarkt erlitt.
