Collective term for guns with big calibres used by the marines, the cost defence and the army. The term "artillery" either comes from the Latin words "ars" and "tollere" (which means "art of throwing") or from the Latin word "arcus" (bow), which applies to the curved trajectory of the missile.
Historically there is a difference between two types of artillery:
Catapults, that were used since the antiquity until to the 16th century and barrel artillery, which was used since the 15th century.
