The war film “The Outpost” is based on true events and depicts the everyday life and combat of US soldiers at a remote outpost in Afghanistan. Staff Sergeant Clint Romesha and other soldiers are transferred to Combat Outpost Keating in the dangerous Kamdesh Valley - a tactically unfavorable base that is regularly attacked by Taliban fighters.
Under the command of Captain Keating, the unit tries to secure peace through talks with Afghan village elders, but the attacks continue. After a tragic accident in which Keating dies, different officers take over command one after the other. Each tries to deal with the tense situation in their own way - be it through political restraint, like CPT Broward, or through offensive planning, like Romesha.
On October 3, 2009, the Taliban launched a major attack: hundreds of fighters attacked the virtually unprotected camp. In a desperate battle, the US soldiers fight for survival. Many comrades are killed, including SSG Gallegos, SPC Griffin and SPC Mace. Romesha and Carter show exceptional courage, rescue wounded comrades and make a significant contribution to the recapture of the outpost. Only with the help of air support is it possible to repel the attack. The movie ends with the withdrawal of the survivors and the destruction of the outpost. Romesha and Carter are later awarded the Medal of Honor for their heroism. The unit is considered one of the most highly decorated of the entire war in Afghanistan.
