The film takes place in 1943 and deals with some Nazi soldiers escorting Greek Jews to a death camp. On their way they stop in a small Bulgarian town, where Walter, one of the Nazi officers falls in love with Rutt, a Jewish girl. This love makes him start thinking about the inhuman nature of fascism and his own part in the fight between good and evil. Some Bulgarian resistance fighters help him to organize Rutt's escape. But can she still be saved?
