Essen, Schlafen, Keine Frauen is an eclectic documentary which deals with events big and small on one day in history: Sunday, October 7, 2001. At 5:27 p.m. that day, the American bombing of Afghanistan began, sending out a shock wave of smaller events across the globe. It is these smaller events that are of interest to award-winning filmmaker Heiner Stadler who undertook an around-the-world journey to record impressions of that day. Among those interviewed by Heiner is a Pakistani marquee painter who became unemployed after the mob burning of Americam cinemas; a group of gold prospectors who struck it rich; a politically ignorant Paris street musician; an American man who began an extramarital affair in China; an Egyptian pop-star forced to can a U.S. concert tour; and South American football fans who were only concerned with the qualifying matches for the World Cup.
