Balliova is a small Turkish-Kurdish village near the borders to Iraq and Iran. It is under the control of the Turkidh military forces. The whole region is influenced by the boundary disputes and tensions.
2005 Azad and Nazenin want to marry, but during their marriage there is a scuffle and Azad shoots a Turkish soldier and has to flee. Hidden in a truck he comes to the autonomous region Kurdistan in Iraq, where he meets people who symbolize the Kurdish fate: Cheto has come from Paris, as his sister's remains have been found in a common grave and Jekaf has been kidnapped as a girl by Iraqi soldiers. Moreover Azad meets Taman, who brings him to a guerilla-camp in the Kurdish mountains. From here the rebels fight the islamic regime. Taman also wants to marry, but the marriage is disturbed by a bombing. Azad decides to take Nazenin to the mountains, but when he goes to fetch her he gets into a Turkish ambush.
