plot synopsis:
Biographical drama about the life of the gay jewish poet und painter Max Jacob (1876- 1944). The film tells the story of the life of Monsieur Max who life the life of an eccentric poet of the bohemia on the Momatre. He’s a friend of Pablo Picasso, Jean Cocteau, Sacha Guitry and Jean Marais and one day he takes in the young girl Alice which Picasso wants to send to asylum because she disrupts his work.
But the life of Alice and Max is branded by the “adventures” of the artist, his drug-problems, his poverty and his homosexuality. After o short time Alice had to go to the asylum- but she will never forget what Max had done for her. Feb. 1944, the GESTAPO invades the monastery to which Max has retreated and arrests him although he converted to the catholic faith. Max is brought to Drancy where millions of men und women are waiting for their deportation to Germany. Whereas all his friends disgresses from him and his destiny Alice is unimaginable to rescue him.
