A group of seven manages to escape to neutral Switzerland in 1942. But in August the Swiss government tightens its immigration policy. With the help of the villagers and by changing clothes, identities and papers the refugees try to meet the new guidelines. But the policeman of the village sees through this hide-and-seek, feels betrayed and calls for an official process. Those persecuted for racist reasons are forced to leave the country whereas those wanted for political reasons can stay.
