Robert Capa was one of the most important photographers of the 20th century. He ducumented five wars on three continents. He himself was a pacifist, but wore uniforms, drove tanks, jumped out of planes and stood in the front lines. He was the only photographer documenting the landing in Normandy.
Rober Capa, actually Endre Friedmann, a young Jewish man from Budapest, was a refugee in Berlin and Paris and with 23 years he had become the most prominent war photographer of the world.
He shot the Spanish Civil War, the Japanese invasion into China, settings of World War II and the first Israeli-Arab Conflict. He got one of the leading positions at the Magnum Agency in New York, but after only six years, in 1954, he decided to quit and shoot the war of the French in Indochina. There he died of a landmine.
