The young, inexperienced Matt Ocre does not think much of the war. Nevertheless, he joins the army in 2003 to finance his studies. He goes to Iraq to fulfill his duty as an infantryman on a machine gun. However, he soon realizes that he isn't made for the fight in this dangerous area and breaks his hand to avoid the mission. But as soon as he is recovering, a new mission comes. He and his squad have to repair a water pipe that was destroyed in a unsafe village. Accordingly, the operation is brutal and Ocre loses himself more and more in the cruelty of war.
