France 1944: the two half-brothers Antoine and Julien live with their uncle in a small village in the country. Because of one their pranks the mayor of the village unfortunately dies and the boys escape trying to make their way back to their mother in Lyon. On their march they make the acquaintance of Bohlinger, a German soldier from Alsace who is absent without leave. The three make friends and their initial fear and distrust enventually turns into sympathy and friendship. For a short period the three have found their peace - but then their idyll is once more disturbed by the outside world.
