At the beginning of the decade and in a Spain, that had changed a lot since 1936, the distance and sparation from other progressive european countries increased. Especially the political system, still dictatorial, had a strong influence. There was a new idea of cinema, especially concerning films about the Spanish Civil War and the national crusade. A placatory tone concerning the opposing fronts becomes more and more important in this film. But the soldiers do not ally themselves to the victorious party. As a symbol for that the film shows two dead soldiers in a trench, one national and one republican, both fallen in the fight. This film stands for a better Spain and the differen ways to reach this aim.
