Alfred Grasel is born to an unmarried mother in Vienna in 1926. His father is a Jew and his mother gives him two weeks after his birth. Until 1938 Alfred lives with several foster families. After the invasion by the Nazis, his foster mother denounces him because of stealth, but actually it is just the fear of having a half-Jewish child in the family. Alfred is sent to the NS-reformatory Mölding and to the euthanasia camp "Am Spiegelgrund". He tries to escape two times then he is sedated by injectons given to him by SS doctor Heinrich Gross. Afterwards he is brought to the youth concentration camp Moringen in Germany. Here he has to work in an underground ordnance factory. Shortly before the end of war he has an accident and returns to Vienna as a 19-year old invalid. Only 50 years after the end of the war and the death of his wife he feels ready to tell his children his tale of woe.
