The film takes place in the German occupied France and deals with the salesman Edmond Batignole. He feels quite comfortable with the situation of his country. But just until he and his family move into the flat of a deported Jewish familiy and the Jewish boy Simon opens his eyes to what really happens around him. When the son of the deported family suddenly appears, the salesman hides him in his cellar. The Salesman hides him together with two other Jewish children and tries to save their lives by bringing them to the border of Switzerland.
