The film “Reseba - The Dark Wind” is about two young Yazidis, Pero and Reko, who live in Iraqi Kurdistan and are celebrating their engagement. But then the IS (Islamic State) attack on the village begins. Many manage to flee into the mountains, some go into hiding. The young women are discovered and abducted by IS. Reko, who was working in an oil field during the attack, sets off in search of Pero. He finds Pero's family in a refugee camp and, together with Pero's father, tries to find out more about Pero's whereabouts. They find out that Pero had been sold on a slave market and sold on to Syria after the death of her first owner. Reko manages to find Pero and bring her to the refugee camp where Reko and Pero's families now live. But for the severely traumatized Pero, a normal life is almost inconceivable. It is only when she visits the Yazidi religious community, where she is cleansed and blessed, that she is able to regain hope. The film addresses the plight of women who become victims of sexualized violence in wars.
