This documentary series deals with the captivity of about eleven million German soldiers after World War II. With the help of time witnesses a time is reappraised, that often shaped the victims more than war itself. The focus of the first part is set on russian captivity. The second part shows the suffering of the prisoners in the west, in American and French captivity. The third part deals with the homecomers and their problems to start a new life, that were the same in east and west.
