When her hiding place is destroyed by a cluster bomb Jewish singer Rachel Stein tries to escape on a boat with a group of other Jews to the South of the Netherlands, which is already freed. But they are detected and and all but Rachel are killed and robbed.
As she has nothing to lose, she joins the Dutch resistance. Under a false name, Ellis de Vries, she flirts with the German security officer Müntze. He offers her a job as secretary. In the meantime the resistance group is planning to free some prisoners with Ellis' help, but the plan is discovered and fails.
