The film consists of material already used for the making of "Der Weltkrieg I" and "Der Weltkrieg II". It describes the war-preparations, the occupation of Belgium, the battles of Tannenberg, the battle at the rivers Marne and Somme, and the battle of Ypern/Langemarck. Though most of scenes are documentary, some battle-scenes had to be reenacted with actors in oder to "create images that correspond to reality", said Reichsarchivar and former major Georg Soltan.
