Mother Pahako and her sons lead a quiet life in the village of Gurra. Together they till the land Pashako`s husband has left her. Their peace is interrupted when Italian troops occupy Albania. Vrana, Pashako`s brother, organizes a group of freedom fighters and takes on the battle. Tafil, his nephew, joins them and is killed during an ambush for the liberation of a number of interned partisans. Meto, Pashako`s other son, is also killed in battle.
