The movie is set at the time of the Portuguese Colonial War in the 1970s. Because of the numerous struggles, the father of the main character Alex, Pedro, is recovered by the army. After recruitment, father and son regulary write letters, but on one day, Alex gets no reponse back from the front. While he and his mother from worst going out, they learn of a back-coming soldier that the father is back in Portugal also for several month.
