The american journalist McKindley B. Thompson, nickname Mac, writes in moscow under the pseudonym "Comrade X" uncensored and unflattering stories about the sowjet union. When his valet Vanya finds out about that he blackmails him into marrying his daughter Theodore to smuggle her out of the land. Mac agrees and mutually falls in love with her who initially only agreed to leave the country to spread the ideology of communism in the west.
