Germany 1939: The young Hans-Joachim Marseille is a fabulous pilot. He and his friend Robert are transferred to Africa by the beginning of the war. After the hundredst shooting down the soldier is celebrated in Berlin: There he falls in love with the young teacher Brigitte, who raises doubts in him about the useless war that would make a common future impossible. Marseille does not return from his next action: His parachute gets caught by the falling plane.
