plot synopsis:
The historical war drama tells the story of soldiers being sent to Afghanistan after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Among them is the special unit of the inexperienced but respected US Army Captain Mitch Nelson, who got dropped off near Mazar-e Sharif. Their mission is to defeat the Taliban and al Qaeda who are holding the city. On their way they meet the warlord General Dostum, who is attempting to capture the city, battling Taliban leader Mullah Razzan, a brutal leader of the local communities, who has murdered Dostum's family. With the support of Dostum and the afghan army led by him, the twelve US soldiers have to adapt to the strategies of their new allies in battle, which means that they have to arrive in foreign territory on horses, battling against tanks and other vehicles. Despite a superiority of manpower and artillery of 50,000 Taliban supporters, they succeed to capture the vally to Mazar-e Sharif, and only one of the twelve men got injured. All twelve soldiers return home after 23 days of fighting in Afghanistan.
