Desmond T. Doss has a strong Christian background. As a child and after an incident within his family he swore himself that he will never take a weapon in his hands again in his life. Nevertheless, he enlisted in military service like his brother after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He becomes a combat medic and although the war is against his ideals, he sets himself the goal of saving lives, while others focus on taking lives. During his basic training he gets into trouble with superiors and comrades because of his attitude. He is considered a weak coward who will not be able to protect his comrades on the battlefield. However, when the troup finds itself in the middle of the slaughter of Okinawa, Doss is undergoing a development that will quickly change the minds of his comrades. He literally grows into a hero by saving the lives of around 75 wounded men. With his selfless behavior, he quickly becomes a courageous role model for his comrades and donates hope in one of the cruellest battles of the Second World War. The film is based on the true story of the soldier Desmond T. Doss. For his achievements he was awarded the highest honor of the US military, the Medal of Honor.
