During World War II an american group of workers has to build landing places on the isles in the pacific. Donovan is their construction manager. Their work is very dangerous, because the japanese troops attack them often. Therefore they arm theirselves and fight against the enemy as a Construction Batailon (CB), although they don't have the needed training or the permission. The Captain Yarrow hates Donovan because of his behaviour in the construction group, but also because he and his girlfriend Constanze fall in love. The film ends with the tragic death of Donovan in a battle with japanese soldiers.
