Dolomites mountain guide Florian Dimai and Count Arthur Franchini share the love for the mountains and are longtime friends. When the First World War breaks out they find themselves on opposite sides of the front. An Italian platoon under the command of Franchini works its way to the Austrian trenches with a tunnel in order to blow up the mountain top. The Austrians, encircled on the top, can hear the permanent hammering and knocking. Helplessly they wait for the moment of explosion...
