Allied forces land at Anzio. But even though they are unopposed, the commanding officer decides to dig in instead of moving inland. A war correspondent, battle-hardened by all his experiences, borrows a jeep and drives to Rome and back without seeing any German forces. But his report about the enemy is ignored. After a time the troops decide to move, but the Germans had enough time to arrive. A bloody fight starts.
