The film takes place in a small village in Siberia and shows the Russian history from the beginning of the century to the 1980s. Three generations try to find happiness at this place of the earth. The first generation bulits a road through the Taiga, the second strengthens communism and the third searches for oil. Oil is found, but to extract it, the old cemetery and with it the history of the village has to be destroyed.
