The film starts in 1921 and deals with the friendship between two children, the socialist boy Miguel (Quique Camoiras) and the civil girl Luisa (Luisita Espana). At the time of the public front both are grown up, but they still have the same political opinions. The grown up Luisa (Conchita Montenegro) thinks that spanish problems will be solved quickly by fashism. The grown up Miguel (Ismael Merlo) has become a communist and dicusses with his girlfriend about the political situation. The main part of the film takes place during the first days of war in Madrid.
