I survived. The documentation tells the story of the 33 year old Tino K. from Chemnitz who came to Murnau as professional mountain soldier. In his free time he is a freak- biker, who loves the alps outside of his door. The most radical experience in his life happened to him in November 2005 when he was injured in a suicide bombing in Kabul, when 12 kilos explosives detonated in two meters distance. All three soldiers had left their armoured car after a fictitious car accident on the main rout in the east of Kabul. It was a trap. It was decided by chance who has to die or who is injured and in which way. Tino was able to jump behind a massive pillar- his friend Stefan was totally cached by the explosion. Another officer who sat in the same car was killed immediately. Tino is able to lead nearly a normal life with his artificial leg. Six moths after the medics of the “Bundeswehr” returned him from his simulated coma he was able to use his bike again. His friend Stefan is hardy not able to move himself even with his artificial legs. When he is not sitting in his wheelchair he uses his hand bike. Their comrades help wherever they can. Nevertheless Stefan and Tino are going to leave the army. “A man without legs is not a soldier”, says Stefan. A sober diagnosis shortly before his forties birthday and twenty months after the attack in Kabul. 37º accompanies the two friends on their way to their “second life”. The film documents their optimism but also their every day endeavours which are necessary to tackle with the effects of the attack.
