plot synopsis:
In a timeless no-mans land scarred by social decay a circus troupe tries to escape an imminent civil war. Everybody awaits the arrival of the mysterious Rupert who is to deliver them from danger into a better world. The old and wise tightrope master Abib keeps a watchful, loving eye on his young apprentice Isaac who, to his concern, could be drafted into the army at any moment. Matters become even worse, when Isaac falls in love with the circus' mermaid. As he attempts to free her from her tragic fate he gets in conflict with his father, his collegues and into trouble with the military regime.
