plot synopsis:
"Speer and Hitler: The Devil's Architect" is a film project in three parts and deals with the architect, minister of armament and war criminal Albert Speer. This son of the middle class and Adolf Hitler meet and a friendship between men begins. During their friendship both get lost in their megalomania.

The first part deals with with Speer becomming Hitler's organizer of war. But the film also shows the future of Speer, sitting in a prison in Nuremberg, waiting for his trial to begin. Speer denies his close relationship to Hitler and portrays himself as the innocent artist.

As a young man he plans giant buildings for Hitler, that are supposed to show his strength and power. Hitler supports him with the money he needs. Despite of the persecution of the Jews, Speer sketches temples for the Third Reich - shrines of National Socialism. GERMANIA becomes the symbol for the new city of Berlin and both men intoxicate themselves with the future.

The six children of Speer during that time live peacefully in Hitler's house at the Obersalzberg, during their father steers a horrorful war.
The film joins the children on their unpleasant journey into the past and into the father's world. This world seems to be very frightening for them, because when Speer visited his children, he was a loving father and did not fit into the picture of a brutal and possessed minister of the Reich.

The second part of the film deals with the trial in Nuremberg. Speer is abled to portray himself as the gentleman Nazi and wins a distance to Hitler. On this way he creates enemies in the old party but wins allied friends. All the time he insits on not having known anything about the genocide.

The third part of the film deals with the 20 years Speer spends in prison in Spandau. There seven Nazi leaders are imprisoned, Speer is number five. During his time in prison Speer plans his future and creates a glorifying legend.
