On the 16th december of 1943, Elfriede Scholz becomes beheaded by the guillotine in Berlin Plötzensee. She is the youngest sister of the author Erich Maria Remarque and is set because of "destroying the military" in front of a court in Berlin in october of 1943.
The accusal refers to the statements of Elfriede Scholz that the war because of the burning cities was already lost und Hitler should better be shot.
In that time, Elfriede Scholz is a dressmaker in Dresden and gets denounced by a customer and her husband. The adjudgement is her dead.

The film dedicates to the life and it´s story of Elfriede Scholz. Beginning with the ailing child in Osnabrück, over the modern woman in Dresden with own dressmaker-store and in the end the victim of an inhuman machinery of justice, everything is shown.

The destiny of Elfriede Scholz shall be taken as a symbol for all victims of the bench Roland Freisler, who damned in the time between august 1942 and febraury 1945 about 2.600 people to die, who did not all belong to the organized resistance.

The film shooting happened among others because of close cooperation with the Erich Maria Remarque-Peace Centre in Osnabrück.
