The story of this film is the analogy to an ancient Greek legend: an old couple are the only two people on earth who offer hospitality to Jupiter. Therefore he promises them one single wish and they wish to die together. So Jupiter transforms them into two trees, whose branches are tied with each other.
The film takes place in the Greek mountains in which guerillas fight the German troops. An elderly couple decides to take care of a desperate guerilla. They hide him so well that he is not discovered when their house is searched.
When things are different and two German soldiers are searching help, the couple takes care of them, as well.
Finally the two die together.
