plot synopsis:
This documentary tells the story of those women who had to built the runway at the airport in Frankfurt in 1944. 1700 young Jewish women from Hungary were brought from Auschwitz to Frankfurt to built the first concrete runway in Germany, so that Hitler's secret weapon - the first jet aircraft - could start and land to win the war. Despite snow and the bombing of the Americans the women had to do their hard job. In November 1944 they were brought to the concentration camp Ravensbrück. Just 200 of 1700 women survived. Later nobody wanted to know anything about the working camp and people forgot about the destiny of so many women. But then three young men could break the silence. They talked to the victims and could make this emotional documentary with the help of witnesses. In the year 2000 18 survivors from Israel, Hungary, Sweden and the USA landed on the runway they had to built 56 years ago. They remember the maybe worst time of their lifes and save us from forgetting the victims.
