plot synopsis:
In 1969 Brasil is ruled by a military dictatorship. The two friends Fernando and César join a group in the underground. César is already wounded in their first action and is imprisoned by the police. Maria, the leader of the group, blames him for the failure and gets into trouble with Fernando, who tells her that he already knew César befor they joined the group. To save his reputation, Fernando suggests the kidnapping: The american ambassador Charles Burke shall be exchanged for 15 imprisoned members of the group. The plan is successful. In the time of 48 hours, untill the demands of the kidnappers have to be fulfilled, there are many tensions between the revolutionaries. But on the other side Maria and the sensible Fernando get closer to each other.
