plot synopsis:
In a small street in the Netherlands during the Second World War a policeman, known collaborator with the Nazis, is shot. A catastrophy for all neighbours in the street that consists of merely four houses. The twelve-year-old Anton Steenwijk observes how neighbour Korteweg and his daughter Karin rush into the street and drag the dead body to the Steenwijk's doorstep. Minutes later a Wehrmacht commando arrives. As the dead man lays in front of their house, the Steenwijk are arrested and their house burnt down. This is the last time Anton sees his parents. He lands in a cell with the real murderess who is arrested on the next raid. Luckily Anton survives. Thirty years later he is able to reconstruct the events of that night and meeets all participants: the son of policeman Ploeg who thought his father was the victim of communists, he learns that the friend n the cell that night was responsible for the death of his parents because she knew that the Germans would take revenge on innocent people. And he meets Karin Korteweg who helped to drag the body in front of his parent's door and who tells him that her father committed suicide because he could no longer bear his guild for the death of the Steenwijks. The formerly clear lines between enemy and friend, between Occupation and Resistence get mixed up.
