plot synopsis:
In the mountain resort of Zakopane a tourist tradition calls for visitors to have their photo taken with a giant mascot of a polar bear. In the winter of 1942, Henryk Fogiel, a Polish Jew who escaped from a transport to a Nazi death camp, hides inside the mascot's skin. A German major stationed in town soon discovers the bear's secret, yet decides to let Fogiel live.
