The film deals with the fateful life of gereral Rodríguez de Haro (Helmut Berger), the militant Worker Jaime Canals (Xabier Elorriaga) and his wife María Aliaga (Norma Duval). The protagonists experience the summer of 1917 in Barcelona, which is full of conflicts. The film tries to show the neutral Spain during the war one the one side and instead to this the troops, their power, the threat of general strike and the different opinions about allies and germans in the population on the other side.
