Photographer Sébastien embarks on voyage as part of a spiritual research. He advises his girl-friend Linda to follow his example. Following his instructions she visits the rural home of Mikael, a composer, to pick up a suitcase. Linda discovers that the case contains a pile of photographs, images of war, of famines, and of people marked with leprosy - images of suffering in the 20th century. It is Sébastien`s wish that Linda arranges these pictures for an exhibition. From his travel he sends her "tapes-messages" with personal reflections on these horrible pictures. After the first shock because of the cruelty on the pictures and her task, Linda sets to work. From her discussions with Mikaël she develops an exhibition concept. Gradually, a relationship of deep friendship and mutual respect between the two develops. Until one day another tape arrives, but this time not with Sébastien`s voice but with the voice of a collegue, telling them that Sébastien has vanished.
