Tanya, a young nurse, travels on a hospital train tending wounded during the war. She falls in love with a soldier, but he leaves her when the revolution starts. On the train she encounters a painter who helps her to discover her artistic skills. Soon after she finds work with supporters of the Red Army, she is arrested by soldiers in the White Army. They want her to renounce the communist propaganda on the signs she has created but she refuses and therefore sentenced to death.
