The movie takes place in the young Soviet Union shortly after the revolution time of the Russian Civil War from 1917-1920. In order to prevent the seizure of power by workers and peasants, the White Army has established itself in Russia from regime opponents and foreign forces. The enemy is the Red Army, which defended the idea of the Russian Revolution and evermore fans can rally arround. The focus of the movie is a Cossack Brigade of the Red Army under the leadership of Kotschubej who understands the struggle as a pure adventure.
