Schoolteacher Juan Jose Camero is assigned to a remote Argintine village in the Andes. When the grandmother of Veronico Cruz, a little indio-boy, dies he takes care of the boy. He becomes his mentor and with his stories of the beauty of the sea insipres the boy`s longing for the ocean that years later will lead to a tragic end. During the war of the Falkalnd Islands Veronico drowns on board the Argentinian cruiser "General Belgrano", which sunk by a British u-boat.
