The "Five Heroes of Vig" are fighters of the Albanian resisitence who become heroes of the Communist Party. Encircled and greatly outnumbered they refuse to surrender and decide to fight and finally die for their ideals. This letter they wrote during their last battle constitutes their fame: "Dear comrades! We are encircled and any minute we may be hit by enemy bullets, but we have made up our minds, we would rather die than betray the struggles we have begun. We have given our word: Death or Freedom!"
