The film is based on one of Hemingways writings. The story deals with the misfortune and memory of an american discoverer in Africa. In his memory his own intervention in the spanish fightings becomes very important. In this film the idea of the director, which is different from the original version, can be seen very well: The republicans are not very good organized and not very competent as a group.
