"Verdun Visions d'Histoire" is a filmic reconstruction of the Battle of Verdun that tries to be as authentic as possible. The characters represent the various social groups of the population: the German soldier, the French soldier, the officers, the pacifist, the mother of the family etc... . The film`s tone is pacifistic, the action leads to fraternization of the ennemies thus following the political events of the year 1927 aimed at German-French reconciliation.

Poirier filmed with Soldiers who had in fact fought at Verdun, members of the 56th and 59th riflemen regiments and also used the garison`s Maroccan guards as well as young recruits of the 42nd division. His aim not only to "replay" but to "relive" the events.

With the exception of the actresses who played the mother and the finacé and several other elderly persons all who participated in the project were veterans. Thomy Bourdelle, Albert Préjean, Danielle Mendaille, Jean Dehelly, Pierre Nay, the cinematographers Robert Batton and Georges Million only simply put on their uniforms again. Ther Germans i.e. Hans Brausewetter were also "real" Germans. From the younger actors Antonin Artaud, the surrealistische poet, was the only who lacked combat experience. He played the intellectuel pacifist, who dies in a shell crater, an authetic one of course, where the crew found an arm with a dog tag reading "Fulle ... 916" (class 1916).

In order to ampify the impression of athenticity, Poirier cut in several contemporary documents of Pétain, Joffre, Nivelle, and the Kaiser.
