The family Juhnke from Hamburg – consisting of grandmother Edith, her daughter Doris and their children Eva, Wolf and Jan – get to know a group of Kurd at an anti-Fascist demonstration in the eighties. There, they learn about the delicate situation of the Kurdish people. While Doris Juhnke begins to care for arrested Kurd in Germany, in Turkey, daughter Eva joins an army of women of the forbidden kurdish working party PKK. Five years later, Eva is arrested by turkish security forces and convicted to 15 years of arrest in a turkish jail only because of her commitment to the PKK. In the course of time the once so close structure of the family begins to dissolve therefrom. With personal talks the history of the Juhnkes is told, who further on and above all political and geographic boundaries try to keep a family, dispite all adversities.
