"We are the last ones, ask us questions", it says in a poem by exiled writer Hans Sahl. Academy award winner Richard Kaplan took him his word in the mid-80ies and interviewed a dozen famous directors, musicians, philosophers, writers and scientists who emigrating to America during Hitler's reign of terror in the 1930s and 1940s. Among others he interviewed Golo Mann, Billy Wilder, Erich Leinsdorf, Bruno Bettelheim, Hans Bethe, Helen Wolff and Edward Teller.
