plot synopsis:
Dune is about the war between two peoples for power over the Galactic Empire of Mankind. In the year 10191, the noble house of Atreides is entrusted with the exploitation of vital mineral resources on the desert planet Arrakis. This is where the so-called Spice is found, a drug needed to navigate between solar systems. In fact, the emperor who gave the order also wants the family to be wiped out by the Harkonnen he had previously recalled. But the adolescent Paul Atreides is a chosen one, in whom the people living on Arrakis recognize a Mahdi who will free them from foreign rule. However, the Harkonnen capture his father and abandon Paul and his mother in a deadly desert. Here there are giant sandworms that are attracted by the sounds of the harvesting machines. The Fremen desert people are also dangerous.

remarks:
It is the first film in a new adaptation of the science fiction novel of the same name by Frank Herbert, which had already been made into a film in 1984 with “The Desert Planet” by director David Lynch, after Alejandro Jodorowsky's film project failed in the 1970s. In 2000, the mini-series “Dune - The Desert Planet” was also released, with its sequel “Children of Dune” (2003) also adapting the subsequent volumes of the original.

In a way, director Villeneuve wanted to make a Star Wars film for adults, which points to the parallels between the projects.
