Alejandro Cárdenas' father, Peter Cárdenas Schulte -alias "Alejandro"- was the commander of the Peruvian "Movimiento Revolucionario Tupac Amaru" and one of the most wanted terrorists in Latin America in 1979.
Alejandro and his mother moved to Berlin.
1992 he got a letter from his father, which he had sent from a high-security prison. At the age of 27 Alejandro travels to Lima. On his journey he meets half brothers and sisters, of whom he never knew, he asks his mother questions about the past, meets Peruvian relatives and talks to members of the Peruvian commission, who try to find the truth in the country's past. His worldview changes with these confrontations with another reality. In the end he stands face to face with his father of whom he has so different accounts.
